Credit card promotions frequently present themselves as being far more valuable than they are. Complicated spending requirements, microscopic redemption quotas and artificially inflated prices can quickly turn a spectacular headline discount into what is effectively benefit theatre.
Fortunately, this new Visa and Trip.com promotion is considerably more straightforward.
From 1 August 2026 to 31 December 2026, holders of eligible Malaysia-issued Visa Infinite cards can receive 18% off prepaid hotel bookings on Trip.com, capped at RM200 per booking.
Better still, the promotion can be redeemed twice per cardholder each month, with no destination restrictions and a generous travel period extending until 30 June 2027.
Visa Signature cardholders have not been left out either. They receive a slightly lower 16% hotel discount, capped at RM160 per booking.
The broader campaign also covers flights, car rentals and airport transfers at the same respective discount rates. However, the hotel component is easily the most compelling part of the promotion, particularly because the discount is calculated after taxes and fees have been included.
Crucially, bookings must begin through the dedicated Visa and Trip.com promotion page. Bookings made through Trip.com’s regular homepage or another campaign page will not qualify.

The Mathematics Behind the 18% Hotel Discount
The Visa Infinite offer reaches its RM200 maximum discount on a hotel booking worth approximately RM1,111 after taxes and fees.
This creates a particularly clear sweet spot:
RM500 hotel booking: RM90 discount, reducing the price to RM410
RM800 hotel booking: RM144 discount, reducing the price to RM656
RM1,111 hotel booking: Approximately RM200 discount, reducing the price to approximately RM911
RM1,500 hotel booking: RM200 discount, reducing the price to RM1,300
For bookings below approximately RM1,111, cardholders receive the full effective 18% discount. Once the booking exceeds that amount, the RM200 cap takes effect and the effective percentage saving gradually declines.
A RM2,000 hotel booking, for example, would still receive RM200 off, but the effective discount would fall to 10%.
The fact that the discount applies after taxes and fees is also important. Hotel promotions can sometimes advertise an attractive percentage while excluding taxes and service charges from the calculation, resulting in a considerably smaller saving at checkout. That is not the case here.
Since Visa Infinite cardholders can redeem the hotel promotion twice each month, the maximum potential saving is RM400 per month.
Across the five-month booking period, a cardholder who fully utilises both monthly redemptions could theoretically save as much as RM2,000 on hotels. Naturally, that assumes each booking reaches the RM200 cap and that promotion codes remain available.
For Visa Signature cardholders, the RM160 cap is reached at exactly RM1,000. Two monthly redemptions would therefore produce a maximum saving of RM320 per month.
How to Use the Trip.com Visa Infinite Promo Code
The mechanics are relatively simple, but following the correct booking journey is essential.
Access Trip.com through the dedicated Visa promotion page below.
Search for your preferred hotel and travel dates. There are no destination restrictions, which means the promotion can be used for hotel stays in Malaysia or overseas.
Select a prepaid online room rate. Pay-at-hotel room types are not eligible. The promotion may also be unavailable at selected properties, so you should confirm that the promo code can be applied before completing payment.
Ensure the transaction is processed in Malaysian Ringgit. Switching the booking currency to Japanese Yen, Singapore Dollars or any other foreign currency will invalidate the promotion.
Apply the Visa Infinite hotel promo code VISTAY18. Visa Signature cardholders should instead use VSSTAY16.
In essence, you should be seeing the exact screen above whereby the discount is applied at check-out. Ensure that the price details on the right side of the page shows exactly "Promo Code: -RM200".
A Few Important Restrictions
As attractive as the headline discount is, there are several conditions worth understanding before booking.
First, the monthly supply of promo codes is limited and redemptions are processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Having an eligible card does not guarantee that a code will remain available indefinitely.
In practical terms, I would attempt to make larger hotel bookings earlier in the month rather than waiting until the final few days, particularly if the booking is valuable enough to maximise the RM200 cap.
Second, this promotion cannot be combined with another offer that requires a promo code. You should still compare the final payable price against other available rates, but an additional Trip.com promo code cannot be stacked on top of VISTAY18.
Third, paid bookings cannot be modified. Cancellation policies will continue to depend on the hotel and room rate selected.
If an eligible booking is cancelled without penalty, the coupon may be returned to the original Trip.com account provided it remains valid. However, expired coupons will not be returned. If the cancellation attracts a fee, the coupon will also be forfeited.
This makes it particularly important to check the hotel’s cancellation terms before paying. Saving RM200 is excellent. Losing substantially more than RM200 because your travel plans changed is considerably less excellent.
Which Credit Card Should You Use?
The promotion’s MYR payment requirement removes the usual online travel agency arbitrage opportunity.
Ordinarily, I'd recommend Refined Points readers to just switch a hotel booking into a foreign currency (ideally the currency of the hotel itself) to trigger an overseas spending accelerator. That strategy does not work here because any transaction processed outside Malaysian Ringgit will be ineligible for the discount.
Among eligible cards, the Hong Leong Bank Visa Infinite is probably the cleanest option.
Trip.com is expressly classified as travel spend by Hong Leong Bank, earning 1 Enrich Point for every RM4 spent, equivalent to 0.25 Enrich miles per Ringgit. The points are also credited directly into the cardholder’s Enrich account.
That is not an earth-shattering earn rate, but it is one of the more competitive options available for a MYR-denominated Trip.com transaction using an eligible Visa Infinite card.
More importantly, the 18% discount should be the priority. Sacrificing a potential RM200 saving to chase a marginally higher foreign-currency earn rate would be a spectacular example of winning the points calculation while losing the actual financial outcome.
Final Thoughts
This is an excellent and unusually usable promotion for Malaysian Visa Infinite cardholders.
An 18% hotel discount is already competitive, but the ability to save up to RM200 per booking, redeem the offer twice each month and travel to any destination before 30 June 2027 makes it meaningfully more flexible than the typical credit card travel promotion.
The mathematical sweet spot is a prepaid hotel booking of approximately RM1,111 after taxes and fees, where the full RM200 discount can be extracted without diluting the effective 18% saving.
Just remember that codes are limited each month and bookings must originate from the dedicated Visa and Trip.com campaign page. Going directly through Trip.com’s regular homepage will not qualify, even if you subsequently enter the correct promo code.
