There has been plenty of news surrounding Subang Skypark's rejuvenation lately. More and more airlines are launching flights to Subang, and I've compiled several updates that you might find interesting, especially if you stay around the Subang, PJ or Damansara area.
The revitalization of Subang Skypark is part of a broader Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP), a RM3.7 billion initiative aimed at transforming the airport into a regional aviation hub by 2030.
If you're staying extremely close to the airport and you're worried about the noise, you'll be in for a positive surprise!
New Airline Entrants
Scoot: As previously reported in my article here, Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, will start daily flights to Subang Airport from September 1, 2024. This route offers a significant convenience for travelers in the PJ/Subang area, reducing travel time and stress for early morning flights.
Batik Air: Returning to Subang SkyPark with upgraded Boeing 737 aircraft, Batik Air now offers both Economy and Business Class options, becoming the only airline to offer Business Class from Subang.
Their initial route from Subang to Penang will operate three times a week, increasing to daily service by mid-August. Batik Air plans to expand services to include Kota Baru, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching.
TransNusa: Marking a significant milestone, TransNusa is the first airline to offer direct flights from Subang to Jakarta, commencing August 1, 2024.
Utilizing Airbus A320 aircraft, this route provides a budget-friendly option for travelers between these two major cities.
Convenience and Proximity
As I've mentioned previously, the proximity of Subang Skypark to downtown Kuala Lumpur offers a distinct advantage for travelers.
The shorter distance significantly reduces travel time compared to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), making Subang an ideal choice for business and leisure travelers.
For many business travelers like me who reside in the PJ/Subang area, the daily commute to KLIA Terminal 2 has always been a daunting task. The typical 45-minute drive can be exhausting, especially for early morning flights. With Subang Airport just a 10-minute drive from these areas, the new services significantly reduce travel stress and time.
Moreover, a Grab ride from Subang to downtown Kuala Lumpur can take as little as 20 minutes with no traffic, compared to the 45-minute journey from KLIA. This makes Subang an ideal choice for short weekend trips and quick business visits, enhancing overall travel efficiency and convenience.
Noise Mitigation Measures
To minimize noise pollution for the residential areas surrounding the airport, Subang Skypark has implemented strict operational hours.
The last flight will depart by 10pm, with no flights allowed between 10pm and 6am. This measure ensures that the airport operations remain community-friendly while providing essential connectivity.
Final Thoughts
I've been covering this topic for some time now, and I reiterate that this is a very positive move. The revival of Subang Skypark as a key aviation hub is a promising development for frequent travelers and the aviation industry in Malaysia.
With new and returning airlines offering a range of services, passengers can look forward to increased travel options, reduced travel time, and enhanced convenience. The airport's proximity to Kuala Lumpur and the implementation of noise mitigation measures further solidify Subang Skypark’s role as a pivotal city airport.
As the Subang Airport Regeneration Plan progresses, Subang Skypark is poised to become a significant contributor to Malaysia’s connectivity and tourism growth.
Likewise on a personal note, having to avoid the daunting long walks at KLIA Terminal 2 is always a huge plus altogether!
