Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is set to launch new daily flights to Kuala Lumpur's Subang Airport starting from September 1, 2024.
This move marks the return of international jet operations to Subang after a hiatus of over two decades.
For frequent flyers residing in the PJ/Subang area, this development is a significant convenience upgrade, especially for business travellers.
A Convenient Alternative for Business Travellers
For many business travellers like myself who live in the PJ/Subang area, the daily commute to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 has always been a daunting task. The typical 45-minute drive can be exhausting, especially for early morning flights.
Personally, I frequently travel on Scoot’s TR457 flight to Singapore, which departs at 6:35 am. This means waking up around 4:00 am to ensure I reach the airport by 5:30 am for manual check-in. With Subang Airport just a 10-minute drive from my home, the new service is a huge plus, significantly reducing travel stress and time.
Flight Details and Schedules
Scoot’s new service to Subang will be operated using the Airbus A320 aircraft.
The flights will depart from Singapore Changi Airport at 11:55 am, arriving in Subang at 1:10 pm. The return flight will leave Subang at 2:10 pm, landing back in Singapore at 3:20 pm.
This schedule not only offers a convenient midday travel option but also adds to the flexibility for business and leisure travellers alike.
While I'm slightly disappointed that there isn't an early morning flight, I can only assume that more flights will be added if demand is present.
Enhancing Connectivity and Expanding Network
With the addition of Subang, Scoot’s route network will expand to 70 destinations, including several within Malaysia such as Ipoh, Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan, Kuching, Langkawi, Miri, Penang, and Sibu.
By September 2024, Scoot will operate 110 weekly flights to various Malaysian destinations, further enhancing connectivity and offering more travel options.
Benefits Beyond Convenience
The proximity of Subang Airport to downtown Kuala Lumpur is a significant advantage. A cab ride from Subang to the city center, such as the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, can take as little as 20 minutes with no traffic, compared to the 45-minute journey from KLIA.
This makes Subang an ideal choice for short weekend trips and quick business visits, reducing travel time and enhancing efficiency.
Final Thoughts
The launch of Scoot’s flights to Subang is a welcome development for frequent travellers in the PJ/Subang area. It not only saves time but also offers a more convenient and efficient travel experience.
For those of us who often find ourselves on early morning flights, the reduction in travel time and stress is invaluable. As Scoot continues to expand its network and enhance its services, we can look forward to more such improvements that make travel smoother and more enjoyable.
