This is something I didn't see coming and is a generally good move in the right direction for Malaysia Airlines. If you're a frequent traveller out of KLIA Terminal 1, you'll know that the Aerotrain has been offline for some time now. Actually, it has been several years since the Aerotrain last functioned, due to the political mess surrounding the refurbishment of the trains. Since then, passengers whom had gates departing from the Satellite Terminal had to use the shuttle buses to get across. In my honest opinion, the shuttle buses aren't too much of an inconvenience, as the distance from the KLIA Main Terminal Building to the Satellite Terminal is less than 5 minutes away.
Back to the topic at hand, the new BMW i7 vehicles are specifically catered for Malaysia Airlines passengers travelling on:
Business Suite Class
Business Class
Enrich Platinum members.
Am I the only one that thinks that the airline is being too optimistic about the fleet deployment here? Honestly, you'd be lucky if you'd even get a chance to sit in one of these cars even if you're eligible. That's obviously because there are tons of Enrich Platinum members these days. According to several social media posts, there were even many Enrich Gold members who were bumped up to Enrich Platinum despite not meeting the requirement for the tier jump. Now add that on top of the amount of Business Class travellers on a particular day.
I travel on the KL-Singapore route pretty often, and very often I'll see that the Business Class check-in area is always packed. I'm not sure if this is due to Enrich having too many Gold members, but either way, I'll be interested to see how the usage of the BMW i7 actually develops.
Final Thoughts
For those eligible for the transfer, kindly take note that you can only utilize this service one-way from the KLIA Main Terminal Building to the Satellite Building. Head over to Gate G1 in order to utilize this benefit.
