Amidst the hustle of my recent work schedule, I nearly overlooked reviewing The Wing First Class Lounge during my journey from Kuala Lumpur to London.
Over the past few months, I’ve shared various insights on this trip, including my 19-hour flight on Cathay Pacific and reviews of other premier lounges at Hong Kong International Airport, such as The Pier First Class Lounge and the outstanding Qantas Lounge Hong Kong.
Today, we’ll finally delve into The Wing First Class Lounge in Hong Kong.
A Quick Note: It’s worth mentioning that The Wing is scheduled for renovations toward the end of 2024, as reported by Executive Traveller.
Therefore, if you’re reading this at a later date, the lounge may not be open for visits. The renovation will likely follow the modern design cues of The Pier First Class Lounge, which I personally consider to be the best in the world—surpassing even Singapore Airlines’ The Private Room and Qatar Airways’ Al Safwa Lounge.
During my five-hour layover, I spent most of my time at The Wing First Class Lounge, partly because of its proximity to my departure gate, but also to experience the famed Cabanas, which have garnered a lot of attention. But before we jump ahead, let’s break down what this lounge offers.
Lounge Location
The Wing First Class Lounge is the easiest to locate among all Cathay Pacific lounges at Hong Kong International Airport.
After clearing immigration, it’s conveniently positioned to the left, with an additional entrance on the lower level that leads through The Wing Business Class Lounge.
Essentially, there are two ways to access the lounge, and you’re free to move between the First and Business Class areas, depending on which atmosphere you prefer.
Entry Requirements
Access to The Wing First Class Lounge is available to oneworld Emerald members, which includes Enrich Platinum status holders with Malaysia Airlines. If you hold this status, you can also visit The Wing Business Class Lounge, located next door.
Enrich Platinum members and oneworld Emerald status holders are permitted to bring one guest into the lounge. However, Cathay Diamond members enjoy the perk of bringing up to two guests—particularly useful for families traveling with one child.
Lounge Layout
The lounge boasts a spacious design with ample natural lighting, especially during the day. Perched above the terminal concourse, it offers sweeping views of the airport, particularly from the bar area along the lounge’s edges.
While the décor is somewhat dated—likely the reason behind the upcoming renovations—the lounge is still in impeccable condition.
The layout of The Wing is long and L-shaped, with one end bordering the Business Class lounge.
Dining Experience
Given its location near immigration, The Wing First Class Lounge is often busier than the other Cathay Pacific lounges. During my visit, The Wing Business Class Lounge was packed, while The Wing First Class Lounge was about 70% full.
The standout feature of this lounge’s dining experience is The Haven, a dedicated à la carte dining area that offers a rotating menu based on the time of day. However, with the lounge being quite busy, you might need to join a waiting list for a table.
Even though I wasn’t particularly hungry after dining at the Qantas Lounge, I sampled a few dishes at The Haven for the sake of this review. While the menu was decent, it didn’t quite live up to the high expectations I had for a First Class lounge.
For instance, the Char Siew rice—a staple dish in many households—lacked the unique flair I’ve come to expect from a premium dining experience. In comparison, the bespoke menu at The Pier First Class Lounge remains unparalleled, as you'll see below.
In terms of food offerings, The Wing First Class Lounge was probably my least favorite among Cathay Pacific’s lounges, though this is, of course, subjective.
Shower Suites and Cabanas
The highlight of The Wing First Class Lounge is undoubtedly the Cabanas.
This lounge is the only one in Hong Kong International Airport that offers these exclusive spaces—essentially private suites featuring a shower, a lie-flat sofa bed, a dressing table, a large bathtub, and a toilet.
There’s even a complimentary pressing service available at the touch of a button, which is a unique offering in a lounge setting.
The Cabanas come stocked with Bamford amenities, known for their luxurious fragrance. Each guest is entitled to 90 minutes in a Cabana, so I recommend joining the waitlist as soon as you arrive. Fortunately, during my visit, both Cabanas were available, and I was able to enjoy one immediately.
Final Thoughts
That wraps up my review of The Wing First Class Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport. If you’re planning a visit, be sure to check out my other lounge reviews, including The Deck Business Class Lounge and The Pier First Class Lounge, to help decide where to spend your time. If your layover is under three hours, I suggest choosing the lounge closest to your departure gate to maximize your experience.
While The Wing may not be my favorite Cathay Pacific lounge, it’s worth noting that even my least favorite Cathay Pacific lounge surpasses many renowned First Class lounges around the world.
That speaks volumes about the consistent quality of Cathay Pacific’s lounge offerings, and you’re unlikely to be disappointed regardless of which lounge you visit in Hong Kong.
